don't cry for me argentina

so my plans have abruptly changed for may. martinique is out and buenos aires is in! i'm muy excited for this adventure as its a culture, language and country i know very little about. from what i can gather thus far, its really beautiful.

musing on bows

as i've said before, nearly all of my fashion influences come from the 13-17 year old girls that i see every morning as i pass the dwight school. today i noticed in addition to their cooler than thou outfits 3 had long braids with bows. now i'm getting up there in years but it really did look cute. [pic from here, very cute grosgrain bow solution at urban outfitters here].

ole ye alice in wonderland

i'm more than excited about the new alice in wonderland. my friend sent me this to sate me. this is pretty awesome; the British Film Institute National Archive recently restored this version from 1903. it's incredible and creepy.

march sweater weather

today is practically sweater weather, (as long as you wear gloves and a hat and a scarf). i wish i had this or this:

le weekend

i was just informed i have a snowday. amazing. this weekend i plan to sleep a lot, upon a host of pillows. i may also go to step class. have a lovely one! [photo via]

25 February 2010

snowy city day

when it snows in nyc, i'm reminded why i pay the crazy rent.
it is so beautiful.

24 February 2010

pupsters

i fell upon another great/terrible distraction from my workday: hipster puppies tumblr. this one reads "perry could have easily informed the waiter that his order was wrong, but has decided to just write a bad yelp review instead."

mission martinique

i'm trying to gear myself up for a trip with my sister to martinique. i found this pic on flickr and it has inspired some new shopping needs.

on my toes

in 2010, i'm treating myself to cultural events. tonight i took my caboose to the ballet. this particular one was broken into two very different pieces: one hour of chopin and the other an interpretation of west side story. i upgraded my ticket but there are always seats for $20.

happy thought

when i have busy, les miserables type days at work i hold to a peter pan type happy thought. mine is below. it's one of my most prized possessions. it allows my mind to wander to when i have a townhouse or a place in the mountains and can hang it outside my door.

lucky for you, one can actually purchase my happy thought here. who says you can't buy happiness.

19 February 2010

merci beaucoup mes chatons

just wanted to wish everyone a pleasant weekend. thank you for making my first week back on the blog a loving experience. i'm so happy i feel as though i am surrounded by fuzzy grey kittens.

tea time

i really love mugs (as i've said before). i'd have more if my kitchen wasn't so teeny tiny. this one may just have to squeeze in my cabinet. [from here]

18 February 2010

the circle of scarf

i find scarfs that are not circular these days too arduous to put on. i have a few cowly ones and i feel not only warmer but chicer. these are my favorites.

i heart sweatshirts

it seems no one is letting me forget about valentine's day. every cute girl on the street is wearing hearts in this totally casual, loving way. i want to be apart of the magic. behold my take on unfussy romance from low end to high.

non fiction mania

i tend to buy and read a lot of books. lately i've been reading a lot as its been so very cold and i think i've been procrastinating starting other things. below are three books that i've read and could recommend easily to you. for a change they are all non-fiction, which is very rare for me.

ok, i've never been one for self help books. but this year i've kinda been on a self discovery of sorts as i'm approaching my GAG late 20s, and i thought this one would be a good idea. gf gretchen is organized. shes a list-making, researching, inquisitive lady that i would like to be. this book was low on kitsch, inspiring and made question my own perception of what is happiness.

basically this book combines two of my great loves of all time: microhistory and veuve clicquot. in my 26 years i've drank dozens upon dozens of bottles and often wonder who can i thank, this book offers a face, a name and a story of audacity for just that purpose. i think it was well done, as long as it's read maybe with a glass or two.
i really loved this book. it has all of the makings for me of an interesting read: historical significance, both a ny and international setting, fashion, glamour, absurdity and a family story. it is Francine du Plessix Gray's story of her parents. her mother was a renowned saks designer of hats, and her stepfather was a writer at Vogue. it really was beautifully written and very honest.

sassy in 2010

i've made a lot of new years resolutions this year. i want to run a 5K, learn to knit, be more peaceful, try and read a 1/2 of the books that i buy, but also keep up this blog. its something that always gets put on hold when work gets busy and i hate that. so heres so a new and sassy 2010. what's that you say? i should have done this in january? my people celebrate the new year on feb 12. an education

i feel like i haven't been seeing so many movies these days so this weekend i trotted over to see an education. despite all my mad men inspired 60s lust, an education left me with a renewed love fever for that time.

i was left somewhat unsatisfied with the film, but the costumes, peter saarsgard and the carefully crafted window into the 1960s was enough for me to overlook some of the less desirable part of the plotlines.

28 September 2009

cute in spades

i was shopping downtown this weekend and i happened to go into the kate spade store. i usually have little interests but there was one too many cute things in the window and i had to cave.
you can't tell, but the yellow dress is printed with tiny owls. she totally gets me this season.

i'm so happy its the weekend i could almost do what these ladies do.
this video will blow your mind!

17 September 2009

back in the usa

i'm back after a long trip and a nice, much need vacation. i'm revived with the spirit and glam of the dutch golden age. here are a few pics from my trip.

i'm going to a quick write up on my fave places when i get home and unpack my moleskin!

weekenditis revisited

my weekend dream came true: its friday. i wish i was naked riding through the plains on the back of a pickup truck, but alas i will go to the gym and do a lot of errands. happy weekend.

in the loop

i'm not sure how um in the loop you have been about the film, in the loop, but i just thought put it out that it was amazing. its a wild cursing, hilarious parody of the inner workings of both the american and british government. for those who have seen it would you not agree that and the absense of laughter is unforseeable. it would be a great movie to bring a boy to, or a sassy gf.

13 August 2009

whale of a dream

so last night i had the strangest dream, i was at an aquarium with my parents and my best friend and we were watching the whale trainer feed the whales. but they were like blue whales, huge massive dinosaur whales and they would have to jump in the air to catch these giant fish. as i was walking back from getting a popcorn i watched the whale leap into the sky and land right on the structure above the audience, crushing it into pieces! suddenly the aquarium was submerged in the ocean and the whale swam away and i had to find all my peeps. it was very stressful. however on the subway ride over to work this morning i ran into my coworker and she said she had a dream that there was a man selling Torahs door to door and was trying to break into her apt. also stressful. perhaps it was all the rain last night. to come to peace with them, here are some whale things i think i need to heal.

he loves me he loves me not

i loved this postcard as i always say this rhyme in the presence of daisies.

11 August 2009

oh good morning!

in times of extreme boredom, i visit passiveaggressivenotes.com. working in a big office, lovingly written mots similar to those on the site are pretty common. but never have i seen such aggression as i did this morning! on my apt door! in lipstick

07 August 2009

peace, love and mj

i've felt strange about not mentioning mj on my blog as i've been such a fan since my childhood, but in truth it was deliberate. as my coworkers, friends and exbf all think its extremely random, and more or less find me a jacko wacko in my own right. however, one of my favorite blogs, luxirare, leaves me no choice but to post. silent no longer, as her memorabilia fashions are without equal.

pretty incredible right, see the rest here.

head over hills

i saw this on the moment blog and they kinda made my day. finally these ladies are immoralized in an appropriate medium: pastel!

unexpected guest

there was a firefly perched on my air conditioner outside, and it made me miss summers on long island. i played firefly by owl city and danced about my apartment in celebration.

monday song

has anyone else been slammed at work besides me? its summer! and shouldnt there be any perks to a depressed economy? oh well, here is a song for any of ye reader vigilantes.
